Digital Audio File Formats
mp3 is the first format that comes to mind but there are other formats that can be confusing. Here is a list of available formats explained:

| AA | Audible - used by Audible.com. Designed for audiobooks or spoken word content. Not supported by very many players. |
| AAC | Advanced Audio Coding - Format primarily used by the iPod. |
| FLAC | Free Lossles Audio Codec - Open-Source format popular among those who don't like the loss of quality in mp3s. |
| MP3 | Motion Picture Experts Group Layer 3 - The most common / de facto of music file formats. Became the buzzword term for digital music. |
| MP3Pro | Created by RCA. Sound quality is better than mp3 but not widely used. |
| OGG | Ogg Vorbis - Open-source format with no fees. |
| WAV | Original format found everywhere in PCs such as sound schemes and used on Audio CDs. |
| WMA | Windows Media Audio - Developed by Micro$oft. Most WMA's purchased today have copy protection and require licenses. |
