Cubase - Installing Instrument Definitions


  1. In your computer go to My Computer -> Program Files -> Steinberg -> Cubase VST/32 -> Scripts

  2. Copy or drag your script(.txt) file into the Patchnames folder.


Using W2K or XP?



  1. Put your script in the following directory: X:\Documents and Settings\admin\Application Data\Steinberg\Cubase SX\Scripts\Patchnames. (Substitute X for the drive letter containing your Docs and Settings. It's a hidden folder)

  2. Go to: (In Windows) Explorer, menu Tools, FolderOptions, tab View, and select Files and Folders, Hidden Files and Folders, and select Show Hidden files and folders. Your Application Data should show up now.

  3. Open Cubase and Select a MIDI "Track" and MIDI Channel under the TRACK and CHN columns.

  4. Select a "Track Output" under the OUT column.

  5. Click on the small triangle at the bottom left of the screen to view the "Track Info"

  6. Click on INSTRUMENTS and select SETUP INSTRUMENTS

  7. Under PATCHNAME SOURCE select PATCH NAMESCRIPT

  8. Under PATCHNAME DEVICE select your voice and Click "OK"

  9. In the TRACK INFO window under PATCHNAME, click on the bank and VOICE that you wish to select.
