How to Update MOTIF series Operating System
Once you have downloaded the latest OS available for the Motif (either from motifator.com or yamaha.com) onto a Smart Media Card, perform the following steps:
- Turn off the Motif
- Insert Smart Media card that contains the OS upgrade into the card slot on the back of the Motif
- Press & Hold down the REC and STORE buttons then turn on the Motif's power. It will then show the OS Updater screen. Thie will cause the display to show:
[Insert card including only one PGM file, and press ENTER to load. Or play in Standard MIDI file including the KERNEL SysEx Data.] - Press ENTER button to start loading from the Smart Media card. Loading will take about 2 minutes.
NOTE: DO NOT TURN OFF THE MOTIF OR REMOVE SMART MEDIA CARD OR TOUCH ANY BUTTONS OR KEYS DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS
- When [Completed. Reboot MOTIF6,7,8] appears on the screen, the update has completed.
- Turn off the power
- Remove Smart Media Card
- It is recommend to perform a factory reset first. Turn on the power while pressing & holding the REMOTE and REC buttons at the same time to display the MOTIFx Test Program. Do NOT release the two buttons until you see [Motifx Test Program] screen.
- Press the STORE button
- Press YES to exit the Text Program.
You will need to load your music data back onto the stored banks or use Utility Mode system settings to get your Motif back into the production state, if needed.
