Spinnin'' 2000: The Ultimate Guide ...
We had been eyeing this book for some time and we wanted to see what the hype was all about. This indeed was well worth the purchase for a small book.
Written by the Editor of Mobile Beat Magazine, Bob Lindquist and Canadian DJ expert Dennis Hampson, Spinnin' 2000 is filled with information on how to become a better DJ. Since 1987, over 10,000 DJs have turned to Spinnin' 2000 to learn from these experts and to fine tune their professional skills. With over 20,000 or so copies sold, Spinnin? 2000 is packed with eleven chapters filled with vital information on how to become a better DJ, how to buy gear, tips for running multiple systems, and how to make your passion as a mobile Disc Jockey a profitable business. It's an absolute must for new DJs that want to get started right and prevent common, costly mistakes.
Lindquist and Hampson both started out as DJs in 1968, working full-time and clubs and parties throughout New York, New England, and Canada. Hampson is a former President of Canadian Disc Jockey Association.
The book is a mere 155 pages of information. We didn't think that this could be the "Ultimate Guide" for Mobile DJs but after reading through the content, we realized that all topics covered were "power" chapters. Linquist and Hampson get to the point in the most important topics of becoming a Mobile DJ and do a great job of leaving out the not-so-important topics and covering the vital tips that can either make or break you as a DJ.
In this book, you will learn how to:
- Assemble a mobile sound and lighting system.
- Compile a music library for all types of parties and events.
- Perform at wedding receptions, including step-by-step script for MC'ing wedding receptions.
- Choose the right music for the moment.
- Hot beat, beat mix and other special techniques.
- Successfully market your Mobile DJ business, including all possible marketing and advertising tips.
- Set up a budget/bookkeeping/accounting system.
- Find, hire and train DJs for your services.
- Build a multi-system DJ company.
- Spin off your DJ experience into a multi-operation business.
Basically, this book is essential for ANYONE who wants to DJ. Granted the book doesn't provide every real-world scenario or every detail for DJs in the club industry but it contains all the basic need-to-knows that helps you build a solid foundation for DJs.
