1.Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why
from W. W. Norton & Company
Price: $10.17

Customer Review: Rating
I was hoping for a great book about stories of survival, what they did, lessons learned and who died, and why - Like the title says. This book, however doesn't even come close to what its advertising. The narrative is chaotic and the ideas somewhat obscure. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

This is a magical book....from Italy to Bryce Canyon to Rwanda...all along the path Terry took following her own muse, the same that took her to Spain (LEAP) and to Great Salt Lake (Refuge). This time her path led her to Louis Gakumba, a young Rwandan man, now living in Utah thanks to this book and... more info

4.A Sand County Almanac (Outdoor Essays & Reflections)
from Oxford University Press, USA
Price: $35.19

Customer Review: Rating
Aldo Leopold's book of essays is a good one to pull out every month and remark on the change of seasons, the month gone by and the one to come. It will plant you as firmly on the sandy plains of Adams County, Wisconsin, watching the bright red blackberry bushes in the morning sun, as any text you... more info

Customer Review: Rating
If you are looking for a book that makes you think this is the one. Written in 1867, its amazing that we are still having the problems that are embellished in this lovely book. This book helped me remember I need to be more empathic to others when they are limited in thier perception. And for me to... more info

This anthology, edited by Jerome Groopman, is exactly what one would hope for - a wide-ranging collection of well-written, fascinating articles which will expand the reader's horizons and are fun to read. Customer Review: Rating
I think that I admired "The Snow Leopard" more than I actually enjoyed it.
After the death of his wife, the author, Peter Matthiessen, joined a naturalist trek in Nepal to investigate the mating habits of blue sheep. His diary became the basis of "The Snow Leopard," which won a National Book... more info

9.A Supremely Bad Idea: Three Mad Birders and Their Quest to See It All
from Bloomsbury USA
Price: $16.49

Customer Review: Rating
I had to hang this one up after a few chapters. It was hard to tell whether this was a book on birding or a political blog written by an elitist frat boy who is long on opinions and short on life experiences.
Hey Dempsey, calling American soldiers "grunts" and yelling at them out a car window... more info

10.Desert Solitaire
from University of Arizona Press
Price: $26.37

Customer Review: Rating
In 1968 Edward Abbey wrote a memoir, Desert Solitaire, A Season In The Wilderness, that would instantly be hailed as a nature classic, as well as his bestselling work. While familiar with EA's name the only work of his I'd read up to this point was a woeful collection of the man's `poetry'. Believe... more info
