1.Blood River: A Journey to Africa's Broken Heart
from Grove Press
Price: $16.50

Customer Review: Rating
"In August 2004 I booked a flight from Johannesburg to the Congo, wrote my first will and kissed Jane goodbye."
On that note, Daily Telegraph reporter Tim Butcher set off on what can only be described as one of the most quixotic expeditions imaginable. In the early years of the 21st century, he... more info

2.Egypt (Eyewitness Travel Guides)
from DK Travel
Price: $16.50

Customer Review: Rating
Not a bad guide, decent overview of all the sites and also cultural aspects of Egypt. My major complaint is that the maps are terrible. There is only one actual map, and it is only of Cairo (East of the Nile). So if you're staying in Giza (Cairo west of the Nile) you are kind of out of luck.... more info

3.Whatever You Do, Don't Run: True Tales of a Botswana Safari Guide
from The Lyons Press
Price: $11.53

Customer Review: Rating
While this book is an easy read, it is very excellent. The fact that it is easy to read through lends to the intent of the book. In addition it is quite humorous. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire book, even through the darker and sad parts. Over all, the book is composed and organized very well with... more info

This is a great book for kids who enjoy interactive creative reads. The extras are always nice to accompany these books. The Egyptology book was snapped up by my students and they loved it. It was quite enjoyable to them and they read more than they often do in books. The big eye was really... more info

6.West With the Night
from North Point Pr

Customer Review: Rating
I am not quite sure how I happened upon this book but i am glad I did. The writing is a beautiful portrait of Kenya in the early 20th centure. Written from the view of English settlers, Beryl Markham was quite a character. Rumor has it that she may not have penned the book herself. I would like to... more info

Interesting overview of countries we normally do not hear much about. Hearing about tribal customs and attitudes in the lesser known African countries brought the book to life. He is an accomplished traveler and commentator.

8.Skeletons on the Zahara: A True Story of Survival
from Back Bay Books
Price: $10.19

Customer Review: Rating
I'm not much of a reader, but I couldn't put this book down. I watched the show about James Riley on the History Channel and had to read the book. I was so moved and inspired by what they went through. This story seems to be forgotten in our American History, and it needs to come alive again.... more info

10.Down the Nile: Alone in a Fisherman's Skiff
from Little, Brown and Company
Price: $16.31

Customer Review: Rating
When I bought this book I thought I had found the Freya Stark of the 21st century, but after reading the first few chapters I realize Rosemary Mahoney was anything but. This is not the adventure that the picture on the cover implies. It's a story of an unprepared American tourist that spoke very... more info
