Editorial ReviewThe key to a modern murder lies in the sands of history. Examining a badly decomposed corpse is de rigueur for forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. But puzzling damage on the body of a shooting victim, an Orthodox Jewish man, suggests this is no ordinary Montreal murder. When a stranger slips Tempe a photograph of a skeleton unearthed at an archaeological site, Tempe uncovers chilling ties between the dead man and secrets long buried in the dust of Israel. Traveling there with Detective Andrew Ryan, Tempe plunges into an international mystery as old as Jesus, and centered on the controversial discovery of Christ's tomb. Has a mastermind lured her into an elaborate hoax? If not, Tempe may be on the brink of rewriting two thousand years of history -- if she can survive the foes dead set on burying her.

- Don't waste money on this!

This was without a doubt the dumbest thing I have ever listen to. I bought the audio to help a 6 hour drive. It seemed like 6 days listening to this incredibly badly written novel. The dialogue was laughable and the story line inane. It sounded like a middle school student had written it. It's no wonder it was on the bargain table!

And I was sure glad when I could mark this "done." If you have a degree in religion, archaeology, or Jewish history, you'll probably keep up just fine. But for us mere mortals, it was way... more info
- A 2,000 year old puzzle

One of her popular Dr. Temperance Brennan adventures in which Dr. Brennan and her lover, Andrew Ryan, are investigating a mystery involving black market antiquities and the possible final resting place of Jesus Christ. To her credit, Reichs writes with authority when it comes to forensic anthropology and her characters are three-dimensional and engaging . Her mystery involves an ossuary which, when discovered, was purported to be that of James, Jesus' half-brother. If true, then Catholicism would have to... more info
- The Girls Get a New Lease on Life

"Cross Bones," (2005) is the eighth in the Dr. Temperance (Tempe) Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. The first, "Deja Dead," brought her instant acclaim when it became a New York Times bestseller and won the 1997 Ellis Award for Best First Novel. Then, as frequently happens, the series seemed to get a bit tired. Nevertheless, it was translated to the highly-successful current "Bones" television series. Reichs is, of course, an outstanding, best-selling author of forensics mysteries; a Chicago girl who is... more info
